MCI football makes a statement with win over Mattanawcook

The MCI Huskies football team had their biggest test of the first half of the season on Friday evening. The Huskies passed that test with ease when Willie Moss rushed for 251 yards, and Greg Vigue connected with Braden Monteryo for three touchdowns in a 61-0 win over Mattanawcook.The effort by Moss earned him Down East Limousine male athlete of the week.

The Huskies and Lynx was not the only matchup of undefeated teams. Garrett McSweeney completed 10-19 passes for 185 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Skowhegan Indians to a 21-14 victory over the Brewer Witches.

The Houlton Shiretowners girls soccer team improved to 7-1 when they defeated Lee Academy on Monday afternoon. Natalie Hill has been a big reason the Shiretowners have outscored their opponents 43-5. Hill earned Roadrunnner Taxi female athlete of the week.

Here is a look at some key football match-ups this weekend, Bangor will be aiming for their first win when they travel to South Portland. The highlight game will be in class B where Brunswick will host Skowhegan. Both teams enter at 4-0. the winner will hold a firm grasp on the top spot in the crabtree standings. In class C, Old Town will take a 4-0 record to Belfast. In class D, Medomak Valley (4-0) will travel to Thorndike for a battle against Mount View (2-2).
