Amy Hallett and Will Bessey earn athlete of the week honors

Amy Hallett scored three goals in leading the Penobscot Valley high school (PVHS) Howlers to a 7-2 victory over Penquis on Saturday afternoon. The most memorable goal was her first one of the day and 63rd of her career. That goal early in the first half broke the PVHS school record held by Michelle Austin since 1987. Hallett and the Howlers are 7-0 and will host Searsport and Schenck this week. The record breaking performance helped Hallett receive her second Roadrunner Taxi female athlete of the week.

Will Bessey from Brunswick high school, Tanner Bickford from Mount Desert Island, and Andre Miller from Old Town high school all put up big numbers in leading their teams to a win on the football field this past Friday night.

Miller had 110 receiving yards and three touchdowns. He also had five carries for 59 yards, plus he threw a 15 yard touchdown pass as the Coyotes came back from two 10 point deficits in a 36-28 victory over Belfast. Bickford rushed for 263 yards and six touchdowns on only eight carries in a MDI 51-12 win over John Bapst.

Bessey rushed for 347 yards and five touchdowns, plus added a receiving touchdown in leading Brunswick to a 56-35 win over Skowhegan. Bessey earned his third Down East Limousine male athlete of the week.
