Each week during the high school sports season the High School Sports Examiner and Eastern Maine Sports will announce a female and male athlete of the week. You can send your nominations to Marc at easternmainesports@gmail.com. When you send your nominations include the athlete, name of the school, stats for the week of the nomination. Here is a full list of the 164 past athlete of the week winners.

This week, we had five Rowell’s garage male athlete of the week nominations. Mike Hustus put up six points in leading Mount View to a 7-0 victory over Nokomis Hustus is the second student/athlete from Mount View high school to be named athlete of the week.

Carter Ward had a huge game in leading the Mattanawcook Lynx football team to a comeback victory over Orono in the regular season finale. The win clinched the Lynx the number two seed and a quarterfinal bye in the class D north playoffs.

Zach Randall from Central, Tyler Welch from Bangor Christian, and Bryce Gilbert from Piscataquis community high school all had big games in leading their team to a win. The Red Devils, Patriots, and Pirates will each play in a quarterfinal game this week.

Down East Limousine male athlete of the week

Mike Hustus- Mount. View- soccer- scored four goals and had two assists in 7-0 win over Nokomis. Hustus joins Stephen Davis as the only student/athletes from Mount View to be named athlete of the week.

Runner up

Carter Ward – Mattanawcook- football- threw for three touchdowns and 122 yards, while rushing for over 50 yards in 30-26 win over Orono.

Other nominations

Zach Randall- Central- soccer- recorded a hat trick in 8-1 win over PCHS.

Tyler Welch- Bangor Christian- soccer- scored two goals in 3-0 win over Schenck.

Bryce Gilbert- PCHS soccer- scored two goals and had one assist in 3-2 prelim upset victory over Limestone.
