Each week during the high school sports season the High School Sports Examiner and Eastern Maine Sports will announce a female and male athlete of the week. You can send your nominations to Marc at easternmainesports@gmail.com. When you send your nominations include the athlete, name of the school, stats for the week of the nomination. Here is a full list of the 164 past athlete of the week winners.

This week we had four Rowell’s Garage male athlete of the week nominations. Tyler Welch from Bangor Christian high school and Andrew Speed from Central high school have helped their teams reach regional championship games. Welch scored five goals in leading the Patriots in two wins. Speed and the Red Devils will play at Washington Academy in the class C north regional final.

Orono football rolled to a 35-18 win over Dexter thanks to a strong running game led by Keenan Collett and Matt Fowler. The duo combined for 319 yards and three touchdowns.

Down East Limousine male athlete of the week

Tyler Welch- Bangor Christian- soccer- recorded a hat trick in 7-0 win over Washburn in class D north quarterfinal win over Washburn. Scored two goals in 3-0 semifinal win over Ashland. Welch is the fifth student/athlete from Bangor Christian to earn athlete of the week honors. He joins Brad Wilcox, Ben Bragg, Brandon Messer, and Seth Pearson.

Runner up

Keenan Collett- Orono- football- rushed for 181 yards and one touchdown on 18 carries in 35-18 class D class D north quarterfinal win over Dexter.

Other nomination

Andrew Speed- Central- soccer- scored two first half goals in 4-0 class C north quarterfinal win over Houlton. Had one assist in 1-0 semifinal win over Fort Kent.

Matt Fowler- Orono- football- rushed for 138 yards and two touchdowns on 14 carries in 35-18 class D north quarterfinal win over Dexter.
